Guitarist - Gary Tobin was born in San Diego into a musical family where he started instruction on piano from his mother at the age of 5 and then violin at the age of 6 under the teaching and mentorship of Dr. Robert Emile, the director and concert master of the San Diego Symphony for twelve years. At the age of 12, Gary decided he wanted to participate with his brother in local garage bands, so Gary picked up the guitar which quickly turned into his primary instrument. Throughout high school and college studies in architecture, Gary quickly progressed into jazz, fusion, Latin and Afro-Cuban styles on both guitar and violin and started to develop his compositional and writing abilites with various commercial contracts and studio work in Los Angeles.
In DysFUNKsion, Gary brings these aggressive energies and influences to his playing with a signature sound and a style that is highly identifiable, while also keeping with the integrity of the original artists. Gary has two wonderful sons that is he is so very proud of, and his favorite "groupie", Wendy whom he refers to as his "island diamond".
DysFUNKsion is proud to have Gary on the team and we know you will be just as impressed with him as we are!
